Go back Inside the Shack Next

The Shack is a very small Log Cabin.  Is it liveable?  Depends on your definition I suppose.  There is no electric, but there is heat.  It is also equipped with a propane stove, which I use to heat water for bathing/cleaning, and the oven has been used for baking.

The roof is still sound but does leak during break-up and will need to be replaced within the next couple years.

While sick during fall 2000 I stayed in the Shack (closer to the port-a-potty) for about a month and found it very livable.  I've even considered making it my bedroom. It's not the Regency, but it's very very cozy and quiet!

This little tiny cabin serves so many functions for me. It's a perfect little guest room. I do not have running water, but I have four 55gal drums in here. I get them filled about four times a year.

(more about water!!)

I used to go get water from the Fox, AK Spring myself in 5-7 gal jugs. So this is a luxury for me.

This is also my closet, my pantry, where I keep my tools, and in the winter - since it is heated - I keep my propane bottles for the grill and my batteries.

This was one of my 'yard days'. The grass just can't grow fast enough for me!

I love my Craftsman lawn tractor. I still have to use a push mower to get to the tough stuff, and the weed eater for grooming.

Alaska summers are unbeatable.... at least they are to me!
Just LOOK at the amount of snow on that roof! Hoo-Ahh - and that is even after
we had some freak 40 degree
day in January that compacted
the first four feet down a few inches!!!!

My oil stove went out on me this winter. I ended up using an electric space heater!!! $$$
I'm surely looking for a small monitor stove for next winter!!!!!!
